Ancaster Mill
Providing pedestrian access to this historic venue was the key element in the design. Showcasing the beauty of the historic millhouse dam and the river itself was also important for making the Ancaster Mill a destination.
Being nestled into the side of the Niagara Escarpment meant that many governing authorities would have input into the design of the site. Bringing natural stone steps down through the escarpment and over a creek posed many construction challenges but allowed for a one of a kind experience while on the site.
Mortared natural stone work was required in some locations to blend historic stonework to new stonework and to stabilize areas prone to high water turbulence and erosion.
Custom wrought iron and tempered glass railings were created to allow visitors access as close as possible to the water for photos and overall effect. An outdoor fireplace terrace tucked into the opposite side of the hill allows for the guests to enjoy a glass of wine by the fire while listening to the falls.
A more unique or historic wedding venue for be hard to find.
